A graduate of Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art, Rana Salam is amongst the most celebrated of designers and is known for her understanding and use of Middle Eastern popular art and culture.

She draws on vibrant imagery and merges it with the latest design technology to create her unique vision of graphic design and art direction. Her work has been widely published in magazines including Elle Deco, Wallpaper, Creative Review, and Design.

In her lecture Shaabi to Chic: Pop Culture is Consumer Culture, Rana Salam will talk about how Middle Eastern pop culture transcends social hierarchy, age and gender. It is a culture where we all somewhere, somehow, consume the same products, be it on a school bus or while watching a cinema screen.
