A Vision, For Qatar:
Envisioning the future of the city through augmented reality!

‘A Vision, For Qatar’ – is a conceptual digital project that expresses the notion of development and expansion, from a physical and societal perspective, exploring an interactive medium that is accessible via social media apps. Sketch based concept sketches relay this exploration, varying between 2D and 3D drawings developed in virtual reality.

The highlight of this project celebrates the strengths of traditional and modern design development methods used in the industry. The 3D shapes were derived from the 2D sketches and developed in virtual reality using Gravity Sketch.

Qatar’s development is the narrative pushed forward to create the abstract shapes that are then refined, using sources of existing architecture in Qatar.

FUTURE

PAST

The initial outline of the form follows the urban development landscape of Qatar. Branching out from Wakra City towards the capital, Doha, and extending towards Lusail City and further north.

The form is further developed to create the interactive experience that animates dynamically on loop, some elements react based on the user’s facial expression. The animation is developed using the procedural parametric tools built into SparkAR .

Primitive shapes are commonly used in the 3D modelling procedure.
Cubes and spheres act as visual pillars that highlight crucial spaces around Qatar.

Mohammed obtained a BA and MA in Architecture, with research focused on kinetic based architecture through the use of parametric software. Coming from an architecture and digital art background, his design process involves the use of digital fabrication tools and simulation data. His development process is a dialogue between sketch-based ideas that are then integrated into 3D forms and physical output. He aims to use the data output to discover the contrasting development and emotion of the “individual” in contrast to the “Wider Urban Context”.

He completed a Doha-FireStation and ISCP-New York artist residency in 2018-2019. Upon completion of the New York residency, his artwork medium evolved from mechanical sculptures to the digital platform. He pursues academic research in digital architecture and art, exploring the implementation of immersive technology, ranging from virtual/augmented reality to animation and digital projection in multiple art and academic platforms.
