VCUarts Qatar’s BFA + MFA Exhibition celebrates the creative achievements of the graduating Class of 2023. This is an opportunity to preview the work created by some of Qatar’s finest emerging talents in the fields of graphic design, fashion design, interior design, painting and printmaking, and design studies.

The show is a collective presentation of the unique and often convention-breaking work of VCUarts Qatar’s senior students from the undergraduate programs of graphic design, interior design, fashion design and painting and printmaking programs, as well as the University’s postgraduate program in design.

This year, several students focused on the tangible, from the touchpoint of clay cookware as a way for families to come together and share memories and traditions, to the recreation of the traditional Mesbah prayer counting beads in Islamic culture, while others explored themes of emptiness and time.

Dean's statement

By Amir Berbić

I invite you to experience the BFA+MFA Exhibition 2023.

This collection of works by the graduating class of our BFA and MFA programs is a moving and profound study of humanity, tradition, the ethereal and the ambiguous.

Our seniors have explored their cultures and their environments to bring these complex and creative works together for this eclectic, original and fascinating exhibition.

Several works focus on the tangible, from the touchpoint of clay cookware as a way for families to come together, reliving memories and traditions, to the recreation of the traditional Mesbah prayer counting beads in Islamic culture into a modern incarnation.

Themes of emptiness and time are explored by several students, focusing on a poetic approach of visualizing time, and exploring the mysteries of existence. While another student chose to explore dreams and the collective unconscious, asking what do dreams mean to us in real life.

Looking starward, the connection of people to the heavens is the subject of a work, while we see life through the remaining senses of the blind in another creation.

These are just a few examples of the stirring creative work that our emerging artists and designers have produced. We welcome you to experience it for yourself. Enjoy!
